NOST 200, Research in the North, is a core course in Yukon College’s various Northern Studies programs. Each year, the class develops a group research project to challenge their skills at discovering information and evidence and presenting it.
This year, the class was set the task of beginning the first phase of a Yukon version of the British Museum–BBC Radio4 collaboration, “A History of the World in 100 Objects” (2010). Everyone was asked to start with a theme to highlight, an event to explain, and an object to serve as a symbol.
This site presents objects that speak to themes of external links and settlement, of the economically important resource industries, of the vital contributions of transportation and communication developments to the territory, and of biography, spirituality, and contemporary life in the smallest of Canada’s northern territories.
